Curatorial note

From its position along the Mercer Street curb, the red compact car with a black roof and hood stripe anchors the street edge. Since its acquisition in January 2026, the work has occupied the same curb, now on view for 99 days. The bright surface and two-tone detailing stand in subtle contrast to the muted facades and the white pickup in the background, turning a routine parked vehicle into a longitudinal presence within the West Philadelphia streetscape. This acquisition contributes to the collection's record of stubborn urban artifacts, preserved as a contingent feature of the neighborhood.
