Philadelphia Still Life Museum

About the institution

A museum of permanent works.

The Philadelphia Still Life Museum collects, catalogues, and preserves civic works that the city has, by extended inaction, designated for the permanent collection. Each work is documented at the site of its acquisition and displayed in situ.

The museum is free and open to the public at all hours. There are no docents, no audio guides, and no hours of operation. Works may be encountered directly in the field or remotely through the museum’s online catalogue.

Accessioned works are drawn from the City of Philadelphia’s 311 service-request record. The museum does not petition, advocate, or submit. It simply preserves the record.

Institutional support

The collection is sourced from Open Data Philadelphia and maintained by volunteers. It is not affiliated with the City of Philadelphia or any of its departments.
