Curatorial note

Seen at night, the intersection of Chestnut Street and 52nd Street anchors the frame, with a storm drain grate in the foreground guiding the eye toward moving traffic and illuminated storefronts. The crosswalk stripes and the row of shops define a choreography of urban duration, while the surrounding signs and vehicles mark a busy, persistent moment in the streetscape. Acquired in January 2026, the work belongs to a small cluster in the West Philadelphia collection that records infrastructural presence as an ordinary, enduring feature of public space.
