Curatorial note
Seen at the intersection, two large terracotta planters with tufts of ornamental grass anchor the curb beside the crosswalk, their warm color contrasting with brick and asphalt. Since acquisition in January 2026, the planters have quietly persisted, their presence mapping the blocks ordinary rhythms and staging a subtle intervention in the streetscape. The yellow graffiti on one planter foregrounds the streets practice of marks and messages, a minor inscription that foregrounds urban remediation and personal expression. This work belongs to the West Philadelphia collection and invites contemplation of how small, recurring interventions shape public space.
